As I have blogged about previously, our farm has a huge hill that goes down to the creek. In fact, I credit some of my Jenny Craig weight loss to this hill. It really is not a hill; it's an 1200 feet straight down mountain! Typically, without fail, this hill has triggered my metabolism to start working again to achieve a weight loss when I was working towards my goal weight at Jenny Craig. It is so steep that it really gets your heart pumping and your muscles working. New Year's Eve was the last time my husband and I went down this hill. Not only have I loved it for exercise purposes but I have loved it because the dogs love it. The hill leads right onto a sand beach that dips into a creek that runs along our property. The creek is actually very deep and more comparative to a little river. The dogs love to race down the hill and jump into the water. Other than the obvious reason for not going down the steep hill (pregnancy) I haven't wanted to go down it because on New Year's Eve we almost lost one of our labs for good. She has hound in her too and couldn't resist a couple of German Shepherds that are now wild dogs. We also have an incredible and scary amount of coyotes that frequent the farm as well. Whatever was in those woods that day distracted her from our voices and she was gone. She is actually very well trained but if an animal is right in front of her she just cannot help but be tempted. I was horrified that day. She was gone and we could hear terrible dog fight noises deep down in the woods. I thought the Shepherds or the coyotes had killed her. My husband and I scoured the woods and hill for her. Somehow she came running back with not even a scratch on her. The point of this whole story is that I think I was terrified of the woods for a long time after that and by the time I had gotten over it, I was very pregnant. It was such a natural high it was to make it down the hill with the baby on my stomach in the Baby Bjorn, toss sticks with the dogs in the creek, and hike back up it. I was so proud of myself! I was back! I cannot begin to describe how incredible it feels to have my body back. It is mine and I can do whatever I want with it. I feel young again...somehow being pregnant made me immediately feel like I had entered into old age. I hated feeling miserable all the time and going about 10 feet made me feel breathless and sore. I have a lot more empathy now for older people and pregnant women, that's for sure! The endorphins that come from exercising and achieving something that I wasn't sure I could do with a baby on my stomach five weeks after birth was incredible. I still can't believe I did it! LOL, the dogs are currently sleeping and I'm not sure a tornado could even move them.
